CCSD Offering Annual Parent Academy Program
The Cherokee County School District is accepting applications for its annual parent academy program.
VILLA (Volunteer Instructional Leadership Learning Academy) is a free six-session program that offers CCSD parents the opportunity to learn more about their school district and how to be more engaged in our schools. CCSD earned the Georgia School Boards Association’s Leading Edge Award for helping to develop and pilot the statewide program.
Participants learn about the role of School Board members and school district operations, visit schools and district offices, participate in question-and-answer sessions with School Board members, the Superintendent and senior staff and attend a School Board meeting.
“This program truly educates parents and fills in the blanks regarding how school boards and districts operate,” a Class of 2022-23 VILLA graduate shared. “It answered so many questions that I had often as a parent but didn't know who to ask. It clarified a lot for me and gave me different perspectives.”
Sessions are 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24 in Canton (with refreshments); with a field trip to schools from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 (with lunch); and a final session and dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, with graduation at the 7 p.m. School Board meeting in Canton. Meals and other program costs are sponsored by Credit Union of Georgia, a CCSD Partner.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5. Participation is limited to 24 parents; participants will be notified of their selection for the class by Friday, Sept. 15.
The VILLA application form is online here and here in Spanish.
