17 CCSD Students Selected for Governor's Honors

Seventeen Cherokee County School District high school students have been selected for the prestigious Georgia Governor’s Honors Program! 

The statewide summer honors program for Georgia’s top rising high school juniors and seniors offers four weeks of college-level instruction at Berry College in Rome.  Students tapped for the competitive program receive academic instruction, and cultural and social enrichment focused on helping them become the “next generation of global critical thinkers, innovators and leaders.”  Students are selected based on overall excellence in academics, extra-curricular activities and leadership, as well as exceptional skills and talents in a specific area of study. 

The CCSD students selected for this summer’s program are: from Creekview HS, Gabrielle Palzewicz - Visual Arts, John Schaly – Engineering,  Avery Sisson - World Languages; from Etowah HS, Ava Banko – Engineering, Deesha Panchal - Social Studies, Ila Prabhuram - Social Studies, Hayes Thomas – Music, Drake Wright – Music; from Sequoyah HS, Teagan Durham – Music, William Irvin – Mathematics, Emma Jira – Music, Andrew Miffitt - Social Studies, Brenna Newsom - Communicative Arts; from Woodstock HS, Bryce Jones - Communicative Arts, Abigail McWethy - Theatre Performance, Grace Needham - World Languages and Zoe Porter – Dance.

The students will be recognized by the Cherokee County School Board and Superintendent of Schools at this month’s meeting.

“Our Governor’s Honors finalists always impress me with their knowledge and accomplishments, and this year’s class especially so,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said.  “The varied disciplines, from core academies to the arts to world languages, also is a testament to the overall high quality of our teachers and programs across subjects.  Congratulations to these outstanding students – I know you will represent your school and our community with excellence.”
