CCSD Celebrates Seniors Bound for Skilled Professions!

River Ridge HS senior Joseph Mego signs his intention for a career in law enforcement

The Cherokee County School District is celebrating graduating seniors who plan to pursue careers in skilled professions!

The District joined Be Pro Be Proud Georgia, the Cherokee Workforce Collaborative, Cherokee Office of Economic Development, and Chattahoochee Technical College this week to present the annual Skilled Professions Signing Day event held in downtown Woodstock at the Arts Center.

CCSD Superintendent of Schools Mary Elizabeth Davis gave brief remarks at the start of the ceremony and praised the students for their focus and drive.

"I am so proud to be here to support you," said Davis. "Each of you has a passion for a career that will contribute to a stronger community.  You are our beacon."

Justina Brown, Director of Talent Development for the Cherokee Office of Economic Development, held a panel with two former CCSD students who have been out in the workforce for the last year, Tyler James and Steve Eubanks. The two young men shared their insight into why they chose their skilled professions and what their aspirations for the future include.

During the signing event, graduating CCSD seniors with plans for skilled professions careers signed those plans with employers or colleges and were celebrated by family, friends, teachers and community leaders.  Each senior was presented with a red and black cord to wear at graduation.

Thank you to our School Board for investing in career pathways for students! The school district offers 44 different Career Pathway programs, offering students opportunities to not only master specific job skills and soft skills helpful to all careers, but also to earn industry certifications.  More information is on the CCSD website here.
