A Cherokee County School District student has won a local art competition.

Etowah High School senior Marissa Migneco created the winning entry for the “Painting with a Purpose” mural design contest sponsored by the local nonprofit organization, Goshen Valley.

The contest, which was open to CCSD students, asked the young artists to create a design for a mural to be installed at its new Goshen Valley Family Resource Center in Canton.

Marissa was surprised with the news of her during her art class with a special presentation by Zach Blend, CEO of Goshen Valley, and leaders from CCSD’s Office of Curriculum & Instruction.  Her art teacher is Joshua Saye.

She will have the opportunity to paint her mural design with her fellow high school visual arts students.
