Eight CCSD Students Win STEM Scholarships

Eight Cherokee County School District Class of 2024 graduating seniors won STEM scholarships from a local organization!
Winners of the Cherokee County NAACP 2023 STEM Scholarship Program are: of Cherokee HS, Mariah Sullen; Creekview HS, Sahara Curtis, Clifford Daniel, Julian Dorvilus and Maryanne Momeh; Etowah HS, Gerodia Apaloo; i-Grad Virtual Academy, Melissa Kiruthi; and Woodstock HS, Hannah Smith.
The program was developed to provide resources to CCSD students who plan to pursue STEM related college degrees or other career readiness programs. Each honoree received a laptop computer funded by a grant sponsored by OxBlue Foundation. Honorees were selected from a pool of applicants based on academic performance, character, educational and career goals and interviews. The laptop computers were presented to the honorees at the Cherokee County NAACP’s Second Annual Freedom Fund Banquet held earlier this month.

Mariah and Hannah plan to pursue careers in nursing, with Julian planning to pursue a career in clinical psychology. Gerodia plans to pursue a career in biomedical sciences and Sahara plans to pursue a career in medical laboratory science. Maryanne plans to pursue a career in data science, with Clifford planning to pursue a career in business science and Melissa planning to pursue a career in law.
